RESEARCH

Research at HHS is a critical inquiry into legal social economic construct of gender and its impact on women’s rights on an ongoing basis. One of the areas of critical concern for HHS has been violence against women. Our research/studies so far include:

Domestic Violence: Patterns and Trends of Domestic Violence- a study of organisational data in Bangalore, India.
Year: 1998-99

This study was conducted as a part of a series of studies, sponsored by the ICRW across India on the issue of Domestic violence. For the purposes of this study domestic violence was defined as ‘violence perpetrated in the marital home and/or by husband or intimate partners'.

Objectives of the study:

  • Assess and analyze the patterns that emerge from the records of the organizations based in Karnataka that serve the needs of women who are experiencing domestic violence, and the capacity of these organizations to support the realization of women’s human rights.

  • Determine what can be learned about domestic violence from secondary data.
