Training For Change, Training For Growth

Why do we train?

We do training to bring about attitudinal and behavioral change in men and women to empower women, raise awareness on women’s rights, provide relevant legal and rights information, to advocate policy change and provide indicators for future research.

Who do we train?

We train Sangha women, NGO activists, garment workers, students, corporate employees, government employees, communicators and police.

What do we train?

We train on, interact with and raise issues of Human rights, Women’s constitutional rights, Law, Sexuality, Sexual harassment at the workplace, Equality for women in substantive terms, Collective strength, Democracy, Gender, Concepts of justice, Legal procedures and much more.

We believe that rights education is a
stepping-stone for women to assert their rights

In our first phase of training intervention we began working with rural women through legal awareness workshops and through paralegal training for activists working with rural women.

Our trainings aimed to provide information and critical insights about law, use of rights, strategies and other allied issues.

Instances of how women were able to articulate their common and collective interests and assert rights individually continued to inspire our work in this direction. For instance women were able to go to the police station in a group and demand accountability; in some cases they were able to demand and get a public apology in cases of  harassment of women. Sangha women have also been able to voice their concerns in local political institutions (Gram Panchayats, Gram Sabha).

As more and more women began asserting their rights, we felt it was insufficient to only talk about rights to poor women, we also needed to talk to various other institutions and actors, so that they are able to respond positively to women asserting rights. Through our gender sensitisation training for government employees, bank managers, schoolteachers and administrators, lawyers, corporates and others in institutions that impact on women’s lives can be sensitized to the importance of         gender justice.

Our training programs are being compiled into a training manual which is a collection of around thirty modules on a wide range of women’s rights issues which will be made available to all.

HHS & Training on Sexual Harassment at Workplace

Following the Supreme Court guidelines as outlined under the Vishaka judgment on sexual harassment at the workplace we are playing the role of the outside experts in many of the institutions in Bangalore. We have been organizing workshops, interactions and write-ups on this issue as a result of this.
